Exploring the Potential of Digital Twins in Manufacturing: A DASSAULT SYSTEMES Collaborative Workshop

The Quality Engineering and Management Group has partnered with global software leader DASSAULT SYSTEMES to host a workshop on the transformative role of digital twin technology in manufacturing.

The workshop, opened by Politecnico’s Rector Guido Saracco, provided a forum for the intersection of academic research and industry innovation. The workshop was dedicated to exploring how digital twins – virtual replicas of physical systems – can drive innovation in manufacturing.

Professor Maurizio Galetto inaugurated the workshop, providing a comprehensive overview of the Department of Management and Production Engineering and underscored the department's eagerness to foster potential collaborations with industrial partners.

Digital Twins: Pioneering Sustainable Solutions

Digital twin technology stands at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, promising unparalleled efficiency and a significant reduction in resource consumption. The workshop’s speakers, a blend of Politecnico’s esteemed faculty and DASSAULT SYSTEMES’ industry experts, provided in-depth insights into how these virtual models enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and the optimization of product lifecycle management.

Bridging the Gap Between Research and Industry

One of the seminar's core objectives was to highlight the critical role of academic-industry partnerships. Discussions delved into case studies where such collaborations have successfully integrated research findings into practical, market-ready solutions. These case studies demonstrated not just the theoretical potential of digital twins, but their real-world efficacy in enhancing the sustainability of manufacturing processes.

Representing the forefront of research within the Quality Engineering and Management Group, Prof. Dario Antonelli, Dr. Riccardo Gervasi, and Dr. Giacomo Manculotti captivated attendees by presenting the latest advancements and insights in digital twin technology and its application in manufacturing.

Fostering Future Innovation

The workshop served as a catalyst for future collaboration, with many attendees expressing interest in participating in joint research projects and pilot programs. The interactive sessions provided ample opportunities for networking, sparking conversations that are expected to lead to innovative projects and partnerships.
