Biennale Tecnologia 2026: The Contribution of the Quality Engineering and Management Group
As part of Biennale Tecnologia 2026 and the Politecnico Aperto – Lab Tour initiative, the Manufacturing Industry 4.0 Laboratory (Mind4Lab) of the Department of Management and Production Engineering (DIGEP) hosted a series of guided visits open to the public.
Within this initiative, the Quality Engineering and Management Group (QEMG) actively contributed to the design and delivery of the lab tours, presenting its research activities in the field of advanced manufacturing systems and quality engineering.
Across four sessions held on April 16 and 17, visitors were guided through a structured path organized into four thematic areas.
The first area focused on the automated characterization of technological surfaces at nano-, micro-, and macro-scales. This section highlighted advanced measurement techniques and their relevance for quality control and product performance assessment.
The second area showcased collaborative robotic assembly systems, where human–robot interaction is supported by vision systems and laser sensors. The demonstrations emphasized how these technologies can enhance process reliability, flexibility, and quality.
In the third area, visitors explored production systems based on collaborative robots integrated within an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) infrastructure, with a focus on data-driven monitoring and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.
Finally, the fourth area presented the simulation of automated warehouse operations, illustrating how digital models can support the analysis and optimization of logistics systems.
The initiative attracted a broad audience, including students, families, and professionals, providing an opportunity to experience firsthand how research activities are conducted within DIGEP. In particular, the contribution of QEMG helped frame these technologies within a quality engineering perspective, emphasizing measurement, data analysis, and process improvement.
